On writing

All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.

Ernest Hemingway

I’ve been avoiding writing– or doing anything truly creative for that matter. Is it a coincidence that I feel as if abundant life escapes me? I think not.

I have defaulted to being a consumer, receiving my daily doses of Netflix, news, books, and podcasts. The core of me knows that all of this consumption should compel me to respond through creation.

The God I serve is creative, and He invites me to create along side Him. Create conversation. Create art. Create change.

But I chose to stop at consumption.

Today I am making a different choice. I will write the truest sentence that I know.

That sentence? Do the good.

This statement by Hemingway has absolutely changed my life. I love it for writing, but I think it applies to life as well. When I feel lost, the way out of the woods is to simply live the truest thing I know, and for me, that is the love of Jesus. I love this post, Taylor, and I'm definitely in the same boat: I'm constantly consuming, and wondering at the end of the day what it really adds to my life, and if I have truly added anything of worth to the lives of the people around me. "The God I serve is creative, and He invites me to create along side Him. Create conversation. Create art. Create change." Yes and amen to this. <3
