What I'm Leaving in 2020

Let's kick off 2021 right! In this first episode of the year, I want to share some of the things I am leaving behind in 2020.

2020 was a challenging year, to say the least. I’m determined to make 2021 a better year, and that starts with not bringing baggage from 2020 into the new year. Here are five things I’m leaving behind in 2020.

Working against myself is so 2020

I learned a lot about my personality and my work style last year. I saw where I was forcing structure in ways that weren’t aligned with my personality and gifting.

For example, my ability to say things concisely is actually a gift. My podcast episodes don’t need to be longer. My posts can be shorter than what the SEO experts recommend. Short and sweet works for me, and the feedback shows that it works for you, too.

No “shoulding” myself in 2021

My intention is to only say full body yeses in 2021. That's a lofty goal, but even shifting towards more true yeses will make a difference.

I learned that I have an emotional center in Human Design, which means that I work best when I operate from a place of “It’s a hell yes, or it’s a no.”

I’m still feeling the repercussions of saying yes to things I thought I should say yes to, and it makes it harder for me to do the work I feel called to do.

It’s time to stop shoulding myself.

Farewell, perfect polish

I love branding, but I’ve enjoyed showing up with less polish on social media. I don’t need professionally edited photos. My most impactful content comes when I respond in the moment.

Don’t rush

It’s strange to think about how busy I used to be before the pandemic. I’d work long days and go to events in the evenings. I tried to launch every project as quickly as possible.

In 2021, I’ll work with urgency but not with haste. There’s more than enough time. When I choose not to rush, I can savor the process.

No longer a lone wolf

There’s an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I’ve already established that speed is no longer a priority for me, so it’s time to maximize impact through collaboration.
